Why Lakerda?

Made from fatty torik (large bonito), Lakerda is the “indisputable” king of the mezze world and Istanbulites have been enjoying it since Byzantine times. Besides its delicious taste, this preserved (salted or pickled) fish mezze, like all mezzes, also signifies communal feasting, taking delight in the company of others, and last but not least, enjoying life by overcoming boundaries of all kinds from social to economic. It also symbolizes the currently longed-for multicultural character of Istanbul whose heritage is only kept alive thanks to the work done in the kitchens across the city.

Istanbul: city of geometry… A space characterised by human-made arcs, acute or obtuse angels, intersection or union of circles, tangents, cotangents, limits, probabilities… The city of collected memory, wisdom and intellect, reminding us of the phrase engraved on the door of Plato’s Academy: “Let no one ignorant of geometry enter!”. Talking about Istanbul, we could perhaps add, “Let no one ignorant of mezze enter” the city!

Just kidding, of course. You’re very welcome to the feast inspired by the mezzes of Istanbul – the city that is today and that will forever exist in history.

Mezze is the main issue here, and yet let us never forget that lakerda is the “king” of all mezzes. And it is within this frame of “tasty” business that Lakerda.uk aims to consult and/or collaborate with actors in carrying out their projects.

We can assure you that what Lakerda.uk has in its cellar will prove inspiring as you embark on a journey to enrich and diversify your food, culture or social trade.
