About

Tan Morgul is an Istanbul-born London-based author, writer, and content consultant focusing on food, craft beer and football culture. He is the founder of Lakerda.

Food & Drink
Tan is the author of an award-winning food culture book “Raki and Fish: A Mediterranean Seafood Odyssey” published in English in 2014, and “Istanbul Meyhaneleri ve Balik Restoranlari Rehberi” (2010, Meyhanes and Fish Restaurants of Istanbul) with Ulus Atayurt. His contributions to the other book projects include Raki Encyclopaedia (2011, Istanbul) and Gastronomy of Raki (2017, Istanbul). In addition to that, he was a co-founder, director and contributor of the first beer culture magazine in Turkey, B:ra (beer).

Football Culture
Former Radikal daily newspaper columnist writing on fish culture, cuisine and sustainability, he also produced and presented the football radio programme “Libero” for 7 years on Acik Radyo. He still coordinates one of the long-standing football culture series with Ithaki Publishing.

Visual works & Urban studies
Istanbul Meyhaneleri (2013, Meyhanes of Istanbul), Tan’s first documentary as a scriptwriter captures the stories and history of Istanbul’s vibrant meyhane culture made by Halk Plaji Fikir Ofisi - production and publishing company Tan and his fellows founded in 2011. He is currently working on his second documentary about traditional sustainable fishery in Mediterranean cost.

He served as a chief editor of “Istanbul” journal of urban culture and literary essays for two and a half years, as well as he took part in a research project “On Being Different in Turkey: Those Otherised by Religion and Conservatism” which was coordinated by Boğaziçi University and the Open Society Foundation.

Tan is a member of PEN International, IFJ (International Federation of Journalists) and TGS (Journalists’ Union of Turkey).
